A Minnesota woman has filed a lawsuit claiming a background check error confusing her with a convicted felon ruined her reputation and cost her a job, according to a CBS Minnesota report.
CBS Minnesota reports that Lorie Wosmek had spent years volunteering in the Remer School District in classrooms where her two sons attended and coaching one of their football teams.
She submitted to a background check with the school district in May of 2012. Later, a letter from the school district told her she was no longer an approved volunteer, CBS Minnesota reports.
The letter included a copy of her background check report. The company that performed the background check for the district claimed Wosmek committed criminal vehicular homicide.
Wosmek is suing the school district and the background check company, which admitted the vehicular homicide conviction was a mistake in court filings, CBS Minnesota reports.
